An anchor names one node and an alias refers to it. YAMLCheck counts both and caps a stream at 100 aliases.

Aliases preserve YAML identity

They are not text substitution, and a consuming object model may preserve or copy the shared value differently.

Streams above the alias limit are rejected before formatted output is offered.
